The Quiet Powerhouse: Why the 3.0L Duramax Diesel Deserves a Closer Look

When most people think of diesel, they think loud, smoky, and rough around the edges. The 3.0L Duramax inline-six is here to change that perception. Available across GM's full-size truck and SUV lineup, this engine has quietly built a loyal following by delivering something rare: serious capability paired with a genuinely pleasant driving experience. With 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, the numbers alone tell a strong story. But the real magic happens at low RPMs. The 3.0L Duramax delivers 95 percent of its peak torque at just 1,500 RPM, meaning you never have to push the engine hard to get things moving. That low-end pull is especially valuable when you're hauling a trailer or loaded down with gear. The engine simply goes to work without drama, making it a natural fit for anyone towing a camper, boat, or utility trailer on a regular basis. Here's a figure that might surprise you: the 3.0L Duramax actually produces more torque than the 6.2L V8 (495 lb-ft versus 460 lb-ft). For drivers who frequently haul or tow, that extra twist at low speeds makes a meaningful difference, especially on long highway stretches or when climbing grades with a loaded trailer. And because the engine doesn't have to work as hard to move heavy loads, fuel efficiency stays strong even when you're pulling weight. "This engine is great for anyone who has a moderate sized RV or another similar trailer, or someone who likes to take road trips," Barta explains. Speaking of road trips, the 3.0L Duramax is a standout performer when it comes to range. The 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe 2WD equipped with this engine offers an EPA-estimated 624 miles of highway range, along with best-in-class ratings of 22 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. Fewer fill-ups means more time on the road and less time at the pump. Nearly two decades of diesel development show in how refined this engine has become. Advanced emission control technologies, including an Exhaust Gas Recirculation system that cools and recirculates exhaust gases for cleaner combustion, make the 3.0L Duramax one of the cleanest diesel engines GM has ever produced. The result is a smooth, quiet ride that consistently surprises first-time diesel drivers. The 3.0L Duramax is available in the following vehicles: Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Chevrolet Tahoe Chevrolet Suburban GMC Sierra 1500 GMC Yukon GMC Yukon XL Interested in experiencing the 3.0L Duramax for yourself? Stop by Maritime Chevrolet for a test drive and see what nearly 20 years of diesel refinement feels like behind the wheel.

A One-of-a-Kind Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Raises $2.6 Million for a Worthy Cause

Chevrolet performance met American pride and charitable giving in a remarkable way at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. On January 24, a bespoke, one-of-one Stars & Steel–inspired Corvette ZR1X sold for an impressive $2.6 million, with 100 percent of the hammer price benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The special edition was based on the fastest car from an American manufacturer to lap the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, making it not only a rare collector’s piece, but also a symbol of American performance and innovation. The donation supports Tunnel to Towers’ mission of providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children, building custom smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, and offering housing and services for homeless veterans. “To honor those who serve, Chevrolet created a one-of-one edition of America’s quickest production car, the Corvette ZR1X,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet. “We’re proud to know the winning bid will go directly to supporting first responders and veterans in need across the United States.” The winning bidder was Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of Hendrick Motorsports. His winning purchase includes the hand-painted Stars & Steel–inspired ZR1X finished in a custom Dark Satin Steel exterior, blue brake calipers, a Santorini Blue interior, and blue accents on the carbon aero rear wing. The experience also includes the opportunity to help build the twin-turbo V8 engine, the first-ever Corvette delivery at the GM Design Dome, and a collection of curated memorabilia. General Motors and Chevrolet have supported the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for more than a decade, helping raise over $11.6 million for wounded veterans even before this auction. In total, Chevrolet’s charity auctions of eighth-generation Corvettes at Barrett-Jackson events have now generated $15.5 million for charitable causes. At Maritime Chevy, we’re proud to represent a brand that not only delivers iconic performance vehicles, but also gives back to the communities and heroes who make a difference every day. With available interest-free financing when you choose Maritime Chevy, it’s easy for us to find a plan that meets your needs and budget. The terms “vehicle service contract,” “warranty,” and “protection plan” are sometimes incorrectly used interchangeably in the industry, which can create some confusion around what each one means. Limited warranties and service contracts are different, and it’s important to understand the differences when shopping for the right plan. A vehicle service contract covers failure of specific parts. It can be added at the time of vehicle purchase at an additional cost, or any time up to 8 years or 100,000 miles. It also may be transferred if the vehicle is sold, or you may cancel it at any time. EV Protection Plan Your Chevy EV is built to be bold. It’s an exceptional electric vehicle that demands exceptional coverage such as the Chevy EV Protection Plan – a more convenient way for you to purchase coverage that goes above and beyond your manufacturer’s warranty with an available $0 deductible. Protecting yourself from potentially expensive covered repair costs doesn’t have to be complicated. The only EV Protection Plan endorsed by Chevrolet and backed by General Motors Available on new, pre-owned, or leased Chevrolet electric vehicles Available $250 deductible with 0% interest on select models Platinum Protection provides coverage for up to 96 months or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, on up to 1,500 parts GM Genuine Parts and ACDelco replacement parts 24-hour Roadside Assistance, including towing reimbursement Coverage includes diagnostics and fluid replacement in conjunction with a covered repair For covered services, return to your Chevrolet Dealer who knows your EV best Gap Coverage If you have an accident and your vehicle is considered a total loss, most standard insurance policies will pay only the current market value of your vehicle, not for what is owed or the deductible. This can leave you responsible for the difference. GAP Coverage can help cover this difference. Coverage Selections Looking to add a little more protection right where you need it most? For 2026, the entire Chevrolet Corvette lineup (Stingray, E-Ray, Z06, and the upcoming ZR1) receives a major interior update, featuring larger, more advanced displays, refined materials, and a reimagined cabin designed for driver engagement and comfort. The cabin of the new 2026 Corvette welcomes both driver and passenger, beginning with a new three-screen layout and reimagined console design. The updated driver-centric cockpit includes a larger 12.7-inch diagonal center console display, an expanded 14-inch diagonal driver information center, and an all-new 6.6-inch diagonal touchscreen auxiliary display to the left of the steering wheel. This layout enhances functionality and delivers a modern, driver-focused environment. Controls have been repositioned for greater convenience, including a new wireless charging pad, an improved volume knob, and HVAC controls that create a more open layout between the driver and passenger. Additional refinements include ambient-lit cupholders, aluminum trim on higher trims, and a new USB-C port on the passenger side. The ZR1 and select trims offer a new carbon fiber display hood, complementing other performance-oriented options. Corvette’s updated display graphics now include Tour, Sport, and Track modes with sharper visuals and customizable layouts. The optional Performance App, previously exclusive to the E-Ray, is now available across the entire lineup. It tracks power delivery, acceleration times, G-force, tire conditions, and key engine vitals. This data can be viewed on the new auxiliary display or transferred to the main display for enhanced visibility. The available Performance Data Recorder has been overhauled with a user-friendly interface and sharper video capture, allowing drivers to analyze their laps in detail with features like real-time speed tracing, side-by-side playback, and on-screen tips. All 2026 Corvettes feature a custom infotainment system with Google Built-in, enabling voice-activated control over vehicle settings, navigation, climate, media, messaging, and more. When parked, drivers and passengers can enjoy streaming services and apps such as HBO Max, Prime Video, GameSnacks, and Chrome through Google Play. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included. “Corvette is the ultimate American sports car, and with these updates, it’s ready to lead the luxury performance segment well into the future,” said Scott Bell, Vice President of Chevrolet. With its bold new interior and performance-driven enhancements, the 2026 Corvette lineup reaffirms its place at the forefront of American automotive excellence.
