As the year comes to a close, Chevrolet continues its beloved tradition with the release of its fourth annual Holiday Card to America. This year’s heartfelt short film takes viewers on an emotional journey, exploring how family inspires and shapes us—all through the lens of a classic Chevy pickup.

The story unfolds at a lively holiday gathering, where a young man grapples with life’s big questions. Amid well-meaning advice from family and friends about college, majors, and career choices, he feels uncertain about his path. His escape? A drive through town in a classic 1978 Silverado C-10 with his father, where a heart-to-heart conversation provides clarity and connection.

“It’s a moving, intergenerational story of connection, purpose, and legacy told through the windshield of a 1978 Silverado C-10,” says Steve Majoros, Chief Marketing Officer at Chevrolet. “With themes of love, loss, and resilience, this year’s film is a heartfelt tribute to the doers—the builders of families, communities, and futures.”

This year’s Holiday Card to America serves as a reminder of the importance of family, shared moments, and the lasting bonds that shape our lives—especially during the holiday season.

Every Thanksgiving morning, more than 3.5 million people pack the streets of New York City, and 50 million more Americans crowd in front of their TV sets to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, according to NYC Tourist. America’s most popular parade includes large balloons, famous singers, the Rockettes and more marching down Central Park West to celebrate Thanksgiving and usher in the holiday season with the arrival of Santa Claus. But how did this tradition first start out?

The inspiration
In the early 1920s, Macy’s was king in department shopping, and competition was fierce. Thanks to great business and demand, R.H. Macy & Co. was spreading nationwide, and in 1924 it expanded its Manhattan Herald Square location to the whole city block. It was a very impressive feat, and Macy’s billed the location as the “World’s Largest Store.”

As a result, Macy’s executives were looking for a way to bring more customers into the store, stand out from the competition and make a bigger deal of the Christmas shopping season as a whole. The team started to look for inspiration around the country.
According to History.com, the Gimbel Brothers Department Store in Philadelphia was the first major department store to have a parade on Thanksgiving, starting in 1920. That parade reportedly had 15 cars, about 50 marchers and a fireman who volunteered to dress like Santa to welcome in the holiday season. The executives at Macy’s thought it was a great idea, and began to plan their own event for 1924.

The first parade
The parade that took shape was called the Macy’s Christmas Parade, as it was all about promoting the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, as opposed to Thanksgiving. To get New York excited, the store took out full-page advertisements in city newspapers. The first year’s route was six miles and ran from Harlem to the flagship store. In comparison, the current parade route is only two and a half miles long.

As Macy’s developed the parade, it became clear that it would also help solve a New York City problem. At the time, it was tradition for children to dress in rags as “ragamuffins” and go door-to-door begging for candy and other treats, asking “Anything for Thanksgiving?” like modern-day Halloween trick-or-treaters. This new parade tradition would offer children a different kind of entertainment on Thanksgiving morning and keep them out of trouble.

Originally, there were no character balloons in the parade. NYC Tourist reports that the first balloon, Felix the Cat, didn’t arrive on the scene until 1927. Instead, the floats, still a big part of the modern event, were the stars of the show and were pulled by teams of horses.
According to History.com, the first parade had a Mother Goose and nursery-rhyme theme, so the floats were of Mother Goose herself, Little Miss Muffet, Little Red Riding Hood and other nursery characters. The Central Park Zoo also brought several animals, including elephants and camels, to walk the parade route. Just like today, Santa Claus, his sleigh and the reindeer brought up the end of the parade. In 1924, however, he descended from his ride to become “King of the Kiddies” and unveil the Macy’s window displays for the inaugural year.

The legacy today
Macy’s deemed the parade such a success (and such a boost to store sales) that just a few days later the store ran another advertisement in the papers to announce that the parade would return the following year. Besides a break for World War II, the now-named Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade continues to celebrate America’s national holiday and usher in the Christmas season for shoppers and revelers alike.

Get ready for the next chapter in the Chevrolet EV lineup. The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV is set to debut later this year, offering enhanced range, new technology, and more trim options for both retail and commercial buyers. A leader in the range game, the 2025 Silverado EV Max boasts an impressive 492-mile range, setting a new standard for electric trucks.

Trim Options
Available in three trims—Work Truck (WT), LT, and RST—the Silverado EV offers a variety of technology, design, and performance packages. The new LT trim debuts with standard and premium options, offering up to 408 miles of range, a 12,500 lb towing capacity, and a 17.7-inch infotainment screen. The LT is also priced to qualify for the federal tax credit, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

Affordability and Pricing
Starting at an MSRP of $57,095, select retail models of the Silverado EV may qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit. Chevrolet is offering more choices across the lineup, including an affordable RST package and expanded WT configurations.

Work Truck and RST Upgrades
The Work Truck (WT) sets a new benchmark with a 492-mile range in the Max Range model, while a new extended-range battery version offers 422 miles. The RST trim, available with two battery pack options, reaches a max range of 460 miles and features exclusive color options like Zephyr Blue Matte Metallic.

Chevrolet plans to deliver the 2025 Silverado EV models by the end of the year. The Silverado EV will be assembled at GM’s Factory ZERO in Michigan, underscoring the company’s commitment to its all-electric future.

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has officially claimed the title of the fastest car ever produced by an American automaker. At Germany’s ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg, General Motors President Mark Reuss piloted the Corvette ZR1 to a record-breaking top speed of 233 mph, a feat unmatched by any production car under $1 million.

The Corvette team achieved this two-way average speed on the northbound and southbound straightaways of the High-Speed Oval Track, cementing the ZR1’s status as a high-performance icon.

“Breaking the top-speed record with the Corvette ZR1 is a monumental achievement for Corvette and Chevrolet,” said Reuss. “The shift to mid-engine architecture in the current generation unlocked new performance potential, and this record is a testament to the ZR1’s power and the dedication of the team behind it.”

Highlights from the Record-Setting Run:

• The record-setting ZR1 featured a standard chassis and aero package, with a standard spoiler, carbon fiber ground effects, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and aluminum wheels.
• Chevrolet engineers developed a specialized “Top Speed Mode” to optimize chassis control systems for maximum velocity.
• Reaching 233 mph, the ZR1 hit redline in sixth gear, with an engineer in the passenger seat analyzing real-time data.
• The ZR1’s top speed wasn’t a fluke—both development cars on-site consistently exceeded 230 mph across multiple runs.

Power and Performance The 2025 Corvette ZR1 is equipped with a 5.5L twin-turbocharged LT7 DOHC flat-plane crank V8 engine, generating an astounding 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft of torque. It features a carbon fiber aero package that delivers over 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed and revives the iconic split rear window design. Chevrolet estimates a sub-10-second quarter-mile time for the ZR1, making it not only fast but also incredibly capable on the track.

With these achievements, the 2025 Corvette ZR1 sets a new benchmark for American performance cars, reaffirming Chevrolet’s position at the forefront of automotive innovation.

In 2017, Kelly Maffei, Amy Stern, and Kris Burbank founded FUTURES-CT, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting adults with disabilities. In 2020, the organization rebranded as Team Woofgang & Co., reflecting its mission to provide meaningful vocational training and raise awareness about the need for local employment opportunities for transitioned adults with disabilities.

Kelly Maffei, from Fairfield, serves as the Program & Retail Manager at Team Woofgang & Co. With over 20 years of experience advocating for children with disabilities, her work focuses on preventing social and physical isolation among individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Amy Stern, from Black Rock, is the current President of the Board of Directors. As an advocate, she has spoken for the Fairfield Public School system on raising young adults with disabilities post-high school.

Kris Burbank, from Groton, is a parent coach and founder of Learn to Bloom Coaching. She has also founded Fairfield’s Committee for People with Disabilities, Stamford’s Access4All Committee, and previously served on the Abilis Board of Directors.

Maritime Chevy is proud to have sponsored the 10th Annual Fairfield Police Union Golf Outing! All proceeds for this event went to help the Fairfield Police Union Scholarship Fund, created to help benefit the children of Fairfield Police Officers. The event took place at The Patterson Club this past Monday, with a great turn out of participants as well as those there to support the cause. 

Established in 2014, The Fairfield Police Scholarship Fund has awarded over 100 scholarships to officer’s children and at all four of our high schools in town. To date, they have given away over $350,000 in scholarships to those obtaining Post-secondary education or qualified trade school.
