In Support of the Fairfield County Police Departments.Did you know that many police officers carry teddy bears in their vehicles? This practice has been around for quite some time, though not all officers have the means to do so. As a police officer, you never know what kind of incident you’re going to come across, or whether children will be involved. While officers often attempt to shield children and distract them, it can still be a traumatic experience for younger children. To help, an officer will distract the child with a teddy bear to help provide them with some comfort.
Maritime Chevy is looking to team up with our local community and collect teddy bears (or your favorite stuffed animal) for donation to the Fairfield County Police Departments. If you’d like to make a donation, simply bring your new and unused stuffed animal to the dealership and we’ll take care of the rest! We’ll be taking donations through the month of March – follow us on Facebook for any updates.
Chevrolet isn’t a stranger to the world of EV automotive – in fact, the General Motors EV1 was the very first all-electric vehicle produced by GM back in 1996. An innovation a little ahead of its time, the EV1 didn’t make as much ground in the industry as many had envisioned. It did, however, pave the way for the electric vehicle market we know today. Electric vehicles are smoother, faster, more efficient, and even more convenient when compared to their fuel requiring counterparts. EVs don’t require conventional gearboxes, make little to no noise, offer huge amounts of instant torque, double the energy efficiency of fuel vehicles, and can be charged in the comfort of your own garage.
The future is electric – and Chevy is getting ready to make the most of it. Here at Maritime Chevy, we’re getting ready for the first-ever Silverado EV to join alongside the Bolt EV and BOLT EUV. Built from the ground up, the Silverado EV features Ultium – the all-new battery platform from General Motors that brings with it new power, new force, new flexibility, and a new range of possibilities. Of course, Chevy has no plans to stop at the Silverado. The next to join the EV family will be the top-selling Equinox with a predicted launch of Fall 2023, and the Blazer with a predicted launch of Spring 2023.
With the future of automotive changing, so is our facility here at Maritime Chevy. We are installing an additional 5 DC Fast Chargers to make sure your new EV is fully charged before you drive away and topped off when it comes in for maintenance. We’ll even be ready for when you find yourself in need of an extra charge while on the road! Our Brand Specialists are also EV experts – ready to find you the perfect match.

The First-Ever All-Electric Silverado
The all-electric Silverado isn’t just a truck – it’s a category-defying, boundary-breaking game change. Built from the ground up to change the world, it starts with Ultium – the all-new battery platform from General Motors that brings with it new power, new force, new flexibility, and of course, a new range of possibilities. With an available 400 mile range on a GM-estimated full charge, over 660hp, and over 780lb.-ft of torque, the Silverado EV is ready for the open road.
To fit those extra-long items, the Silverado EV comes with available Multi-Flex Midgate to fit items over 10ft in length. Of course, you’ll also have the added benefit of no engine, which means the convenience of a trunk in the front of your Silverado. Bet you never saw that coming in the history of Silverado. The Silverado EV will also come with available Super Cruise Driver Assistance Technology. Enjoy hands-free driving and trailering up to 10,000lbs across 200,000 compatible roads in the U.S and Canada.
Of course, what would the new Silverado be without the added benefit of modern essentials? Enjoy a 17-inch diagonal, free-form screen that puts the info right where you want it. With Google built-in, your digital life will be fully connected to life on the road with Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play. Not to mention the added perk of a larger center console in replacement of a normal transmission.

4 Ways to Jump Start Your New Year
The time has come again to talk about New Year’s resolutions. While they may seem trivial, creating these types of goals can be a great way to center yourself, especially during a time when everything seems a little off balance. Even without the added stress of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s easy to feel pressured at the start of the year to fulfill a list of resolutions. To combat that pressure, we’ve collected a list of things to keep in mind as we go into 2022.
1. The right state of mind.
Sometimes, you just have to talk to yourself. Researchers at the University of Toronto found that self-control comes a lot easier to those who have a good connection with their inner voice. People with muted or limited self-talk were less able to manage their own behavior within the study. Use your self-talk to remind yourself of the “why” behind your goals, and to reassure yourself of your own confidence and capabilities. You can also use this to help your stress balance; when you’re able to destress, you’ll find it much easier to manage your goals.
2. Get seriously specific with your goals.
It’s easy to throw out big resolutions like getting a promotion, saving more, or losing weight, but sometimes being too broad can cost you the goal. The key is zeroing in on one very specific goal – answer the question, how will I achieve this? The more specific you can be, the better your chances are at keeping up with it. For example, if your main goal is to save more, how will you achieve that goal? Instead of simply “saving”, set the goal of “I’m going to save $30 a week by ordering in less.” Each time you meet this goal, it gives you a reason to celebrate your progress in real time rather than waiting until the end of the year.
3. Enlist technology & social media.
These days, there’s at least 24 apps for everything, including mental health. Take a look at any goal-setting, productivity, or stress related apps to see what might work best in your routine. For example, MindShift teaches you to tackle negative thought patterns and how to form new habits. You can even sift through any journaling apps to keep a more personal record of your progress. Another trick could be utilizing your social channels as a way to hold yourself accountable to your friends and family. This may not be for everyone, but going public can be another method of staying on track.
4. Celebrate, even when you slip-up.
The hardest part of setting new goals is definitely the need for patience. As the saying goes: Rome wasn’t built in a day. It can be hard to stay on track long enough to see the end result, so it’s important to celebrate along the way. Instead of waiting until you can finally run that half-marathon you’ve been training for, celebrate yourself after each new victory with a new book, your favorite coffee, or any other small reward to keep you motivated.
Patience can also be hard to come by if you find yourself getting off track with your goals. It’s easy to punish yourself or feel guilty over not sticking to the plan, but your setbacks shouldn’t keep you from moving forward. Be kind to yourself and stay away from the regret – it’s not necessary. Whenever you fall off, all you have to do is get right back on.
The History of the Car Key
Have you ever stopped to think just how far the car key has come? While it’s something we’re all familiar with (mostly tracking down the lost car keys), it’s changed more than you may realize.
In 1949, Chrysler unveiled the first car key that could start the engine all on its own. Before this, the key was merely used as a lock of sorts to control the electrical circuit. Now, people could use their key to start the entire vehicle all at once. Shortly after in 1965, Ford became the first to introduce double-sided keys, allowing the key to be inserted while facing either way. While this seems like the basic form today, it was quite the revolutionary moment for a while. This was also around the time that locking a vehicle’s doors with the key became available – prior to this, vehicles required two sets of keys.
The 1990’s became the largest evolution point, allowing for the key fob to come into play. Now, not only could you start and lock your doors with one key, you could unlock your vehicle from a distance using a receiver. As the technology developed, we started seeing new capabilities, such as opening the trunk and starting the engine remotely.
Now, the mechanical key is starting to fade from the narrative, allowing for the keyless entry and push-button start system. In fact, according to consumer auto research firm Edmunds, 91% of 2019 model-year vehicles had keyless ignitions. That’s up from 72% in 2014. Some drivers now have the option to store a digital key on their wireless devices, eliminating the need for a physical key at all.
What are your thoughts on the idea of car keys today? Do you prefer the mechanical key or the current digital trend?
Tech Tips: Keep Safe This Winter
The harsh winter months are upon us and whether that means massive blizzards and freezing temperatures, rain soaked commutes or just the stress of traveling back and forth during the holidays, you need to ensure that your vehicle is ready for whatever Mother Nature throws your way. Following these suggestions is one way to make sure you’re prepared.
The first (and easiest) way to make sure that your vehicle is running smoothly is to bring it to your dealership and have the factory trained professionals go over it to see if there are any major issues that need immediate care and attention. The battery, belts and hoses, cooling system, and tires should all be thoroughly looked at. While you’re there it’s advisable to ask them any specific questions or concerns that you have. They’ll make sure your vehicle is ready for winter.
Even with your vehicle in tip top shape, you want to be prepared should anything happen to you during your travels. Nearly every automotive publication and roadside assistance provider has a list of helpful tips and necessities you should keep handy. Here’s a collection of them, and while some of them seem obvious, it’s important nonetheless.
Make sure that you’re aware of the forecast before you leave on your trip, and if necessary, delay the trip if a serious storm is expected. If leaving is imperative, make sure a contact is aware of the route you’re taking and your expected time of arrival. Be sure to check in every so often if possible too.
Try making sure that you have at least half a tank of fuel in case you can’t seem to get to a gas station.
If you do get stranded, don’t wander away where you may lose sight of your vehicle. Stay close for multiple reasons. First of all, your vehicle provides excellent shelter, and second, rescuers will be more prone to check for your there. Tying a bright colored cloth or a cloth at the top of the window is a sign of distress.
Always try to keep a first aid kit, shovel, broom and ice scraper, sand or kitty litter to provide traction, jumper cables, warning devices (like flares or triangles), a cell phone with charger, blankets, and enough food and water for everyone who’s traveling. Any medicine should be brought along as well.
Although snow is obviously a hazard, rain can be dangerous too if you’re not prepared. Your tires are especially important in keeping contact with the road so be sure to check the tread of your vehicle. Winter tires aren’t just for areas that receive snow. When the temperature dips below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, the rubber starts to harden and lose some of its grip. A special pair of winter tires may be the perfect solution.
Don’t let the elements get in your way in the upcoming holiday season. Stop by the dealership and let us help ensure smooth sailing all winter long.
Everyone loves to indulge in a delicious chocolate dessert every now and then, but those two minutes of pleasure can haunt you long after you are done eating. Chocolate morsels are typically drenched in sugar, fat and carbs, making them a tempting, yet ultimately adverse snack.
However, you don’t have to sacrifice your healthy eating habits to enjoy a bite of chocolate. With some smart ingredients and a minor amount of preparation, you can whip up these easy-to-make and guilt-free chocolate dishes.
Chocolate banana ice cream
Nothing beats the sweet ecstasy of a refreshing scoop of ice cream on a warm day. But did you know there’s an easy way to make ice cream that bypasses the typical dairy and sugar? All it takes are some frozen bananas and a blender!
EasyAsApplePie.com has a recipe for a banana-based soft serve with chocolate flavoring. To make this dessert, slice two bananas into small pieces and freeze them on a plate lined with parchment paper for almost two hours. Once the fruit is firm, place the frozen chunks in a blender or food processer until it starts to smooth out. Add in one tablespoon of cocoa powder and continue blending until totally smooth. You can eat it immediately after or freeze it for another hour to make it firmer.
Chocolate truffles
Bite-size truffles make charming additions at a party, but they can be powder kegs of fat and sugar. Instead of wrecking your diet over a simple snack, find a way to make them healthier.
There’s an excellent recipe for Guilt-Free Chocolate Truffles on MayIHaveThatRecipe.com. Melt a half-cup of high-cacao chocolate chips in the microwave. Next, stir in a tablespoon of all-natural almond butter, followed by 1/4 cup of plain, fat-free Greek yogurt.
After the concoction chills in the refrigerator for 15 minutes, form inch-sized balls and roll them in unsweetened cocoa powder.
Chocolate avocado mousse
For a classy treat that’s dense with flavor, mousse is a go-to snack that you can still enjoy with some health-conscious tweaks.
Following the recipe from TheKitchn.com, blend four medium-sized, ripe avocados in a blender or food processor until smooth. Then, add 1/3 cup of raw coconut nectar, 1/2 cup of raw cacao powder, a teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. After the mixture is smooth, chill it for two hours in the refrigerator. Sprinkle fresh fruit or crushed nuts on top when serving.
If you love chocolate, but feel compelled to skip your favorite desserts to watch what you eat, then these wise recipes will keep the joy in your after-dinner indulgences during the holidays and all year round. After all, dessert is the best part of any meal.

Car Care: Get Ready For Winter
It’s time to start thinking about it. Winter. Even as we enjoy the onset of autumn’s splendor, we know winter is not far behind. Is your vehicle ready? While the weather is pleasant, take a few minutes to do some simple checks.Lights: Do all the lights on your car or truck work properly? It’s easy to tell if a headlight has failed, but burned out brake lights, blinkers, and marker lamps aren’t always apparent. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to replace the bulbs yourself; especially now, with so many vehicles using LED lighting elements, fixing a problem may require the help of a dealer technician, but you can spot the lights that are out yourself.
Make sure the headlights, both low and high-beam, are operating correctly. To check the other lights, turning the vehicle on to its “accessory” position might be necessary. Make sure the blinkers all work, left and right, front and rear. Many vehicles now have additional blinkers in the mirrors or sides of the vehicle, so be sure to check those if your car or truck has them. Get an assistant to step on the brake pedal while you make sure all your brake lights – left, right and center high-mounted – are working. Remember to check license plate lights, position lights, reverse lights, running lights and parking lights.
Wipers and Windshield: Is it hard to see out your windshield at night or in the rain? If the answer is yes, you’ll want to correct the situation. Wipers that smear, chatter, or otherwise fail to clear the windshield are a big danger you can fix quickly and inexpensively. If you don’t remember the last time the wiper blades were changed, now is a good time to replace them. Check the operation of your windshield washer system, too. Do the nozzles spray a strong stream on the windshield? If you can’t see, you’re more likely to hit things.
The windshield itself can pick up rock chips and other damage that reduces visibility. Keep the windshield clean, inside and out; physical damage to the windshield glass can sometimes be repaired, and windshield replacement, if necessary, may be covered by your car insurance, depending on your coverage.
Tires: Even if you’re not in a region where winter tires are necessary, you need good tires for maximum safety. Look for uneven wear patterns or low tread depth. Worn tires are more likely to hydroplane, and they give up dry traction, too. Any obvious damage–– including chunks missing, nails or screws in the tread, bubbles or cuts in the sidewalls, suspicious bulges or flat spots in the tread, etc.––can be an immediate hazard and should be addressed right away.
Fluids: This one is possibly the simplest. Make sure all the fluids are at the proper levels, especially the windshield washer fluid. It’s a good idea to carry an extra bottle or two of washer fluid, as well, because it’s easy to go through a lot of it when you need to keep salt spray off the windshield. Power steering fluid, engine coolant and brake fluid are vital to safe driving, as well; if you don’t feel comfortable checking these fluids yourself, your service department will happily take a look.
Most of these checks are included with a routine vehicle maintenance visit, so you could make it easy by heading in for an oil and filter change and multi-point inspection. Then you can head into the winter months confident that your car won’t let you down when you need it the most.
